Queen’s Birthday Honour for team member.
A Team Member for 42 years, Peter Farrer, of Chapel en le Frith, has been made a Member of the British Empire by H.M. The Queen for his services to Mountain Rescue.
Peter has always been a keen hill going member but a recent injury has prevented his attendance at any call-outs this year (apart from the one when we went to rescue him of course!).
Peter has always been one of those who beavers away in the background and without who’s dedication mountain rescue couldn’t operate. He served on the management committee of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team for twenty-two years as Honorary Treasurer and after a short break returned two years ago as Fundraising Manager, a post he still holds. Not content with service to Buxton MRT, Peter was also Honorary Treasurer to the regional body, The Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation, for eight years. Peter now awaits his invitation to the Palace.

A mountain rescue stalwart. In addition to being an active on-call member, Peter was (and still is) one of the back-room grafters performing those essential tasks that no one really wants to do, which keeps the service going. Without the likes of Peter, mountain rescue, as we know it, wouldn’t exist. Congratulations Peter. 42 years, you’ve earned it!
