Munros – all 282 of them!
Long time Buxton team supporter and Associate Member, Ian Hodgson, has just joined a select number of people who have completed all the 282 Scottish Munros.
Munros are Scottish mountains over 3,000 foot high (914 metres) and are named after Sir Hugh Munro who first produced the list in 1891. In the next 124 years only about 5,700 have completed the lot so, when Ian climbed An Socach in Glen Affric (944 meters) in June, it was the summit of a long held ambition.
Ian’s started “bagging” in 1995 when he had climbed just twenty Munros and was then bitten by the bug. It’s taken twenty years to tick off the rest, an achievement made even more remarkable by repeated battles with ill health. Ian became the 5,732 person to top all the mountains and now proudly owns a certificate from The Scottish Mountaineering Club to prove it.
