Bosley Cloud
When Buxton Mountain Rescue Team received a letter from a lady in Congleton it simply had to make a special effort.
Mrs Joy Stephens-Blank asked the team if it would be possible for the team to help her 76 year old Auntie Pat to climb to the top of Bosley Cloud, a view point that meant so much to her. Auntie Pat Simpkin now has two artificial hips and suffers some back pain so had been unable to see the view from the summit for over ten years.
Over twenty members rallied to the challenge and, as part of one of the team’s regular training exercises, carried Pat on a stretcher up to eighty plus steps and onwards to the trig point. There she was able to make a short walk and take in the views across Cheshire towards Wales.
Following a short break for photographs with her family the exercise continued with Pat back on the stretcher for the 1-1/2 kilometre descent towards Timbersbrook.
Back at the roadside Pat and her family expressed their sincere thanks to the team for making a dream come true and an odd tear was shed. The family also expressed their appreciation with a generous donation for which the rescue team is very grateful.
The team also sends a big “thank-you” to the National Trust for permitting the event to go ahead.
