A number of team members have been in North Wales for an action packed weekend of training . We’re very proud of our Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Vice Chairman Kerry Clarke who successfully completed her first London Marathon last weekend in just 4 hours and 46 minutes.

In conversation with the website editor earlier this week, Kerry stated: “I’m fine, I feel alright, but my legs are little tired”. Kerry – we’re not surprised – what a fantastic achievement! Well done from all of your fellow team members and friends.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team carry out almost 100 training sessions each year, to ensure that every team member is as fully equipped as possible to be able to provide help and assistance when required.

Most of the training is carried out in rural locations across the Peak District, and sometimes much further afield. Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Deputy Team Leader Rob, recently received a Royal Humane Society Certificate of Commendation from Derbyshire Constabulary’s Chief Constable. This was following his involvement in a rescue on High Tor in Matlock Bath, last year.

Members of the public had contacted the Police after hearing faint cries for help in the High Tor area. Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has become the first Mountain Rescue England and Wales team to be granted approval by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for the use of drones. The approval will enable the rescue team to be able to use the drones to search for missing persons in places where access is difficult or unsafe for team members.

The approval is the culmination of a project, which started nearly 18 months ago by two team members, Roger Bennett and Carney James Turner who had a chance conversation with staff of the Pure Buxtonmagazine.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team is sad to acknowledge the death of John Mayer the team’s most senior member who joined the rescue team in 1965 during its very early and formative days.

John, originally from Manchester, was a skilled rock-climber with great experience of the crags in Wales, the Lakes and Scotland.

As a life-long lover of the great outdoors he would willingly volunteer to help those in need of assistance on the Peak district moors and almost accidentally became part of the newly forming rescue team in Buxton.  In the days long before mobile phones and GPS navigation devices people lost …

After a series of posts urging people to vote in the Whaley Bridge and Buxton Tesco stores, we were delighted to finally meet the store’s community representative, Bev Scott, and the local enabler, Elizabeth Edwards as they presented us with a huge cheque for £4,000 towards our digital radio upgrade project.

The team came out top in the customer vote in the Bags of Help appeal during September and October.  We are pleased to say the other two worthy causes walked away with £2,000 and £1,000 each.

Four members of the team took part in the Quiz Night at the Queen’s in Dove Holes on Sunday evening.

Local resident, Ian Lomas put on the spectacular Lumpys Music Quiz and about 100 locals and friends turned up to support the appeal for funds for The Christie and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

Our four claimed the booby prize but both charities were the real winners, each receiving a cheque for £440.

We’d like to thank Ian for nominating us alongside The Christie and landlord Kevin for hosting the event.
