Team members Carney and Fleur visited Buxton Women’s Institute earlier today to give a presentation talk to WI members about the valuable work of the mountain rescue volunteers, in and around Buxton.

A busy day for many members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, with the team being involved in three events today.

Team members attended both Leek and Castleton, raising funds to enable us to provide the voluntary service that we, (and other similar mountain and lowland teams provide) to help those who need our specialist skills.

The team recently received a substantial donation from Waitrose & Partners to support the valuable work carried out by the rescue team. A thank you to our local breweries who helped us put on the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Fell’n’Back 2019 race.

Without the support of the these local breweries, who generously supplied the prizes for the runners, we couldn’t put this event on and make it the success it is.

All the funds raised from “our” fell race go to support the annual running costs, of £45,000 of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

The team, which is a registered charity and made up entirely of volunteers are on call 24/7/365 …

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped the rescue team organise the Fell’n’Back race, and of course thank you to the hardy fell runners who took part.

On the day, the conditions were somewhat challenging and without the support of everybody leading up to the race, and on the race day, it couldn’t have been the success it was.

A number of team members have been in North Wales for an action packed weekend of training . Shortly after arriving on the Friday evening, team members, many of who are new trainees, were quickly faced with a search and rescue exercise in a steep gorge. The scenario involved a precarious rescue of a casualty who was located on the water’s edge, in a steep gorge, with a severe leg injury.  Practicing their casualty care skills, stretcher lifting and rope works skills, saw the team hauling the casualty on a stretcher up a steep wooded embankment through to the open …
