High Sheriff on Boundary Patrol

The High Sheriff of Derbyshire, David Coleman Q.P.M. D.L., has set himself the challenge of walking around the complete boundary of the County.  That’s a total distance of nearly 250 miles over some very rough country with lots of ups and downs.  The walk is intended to raise money for two charities; The High Sheriff’s Fund, which provides grants to organisations engaging in young people to divert them from crime and, The Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation.

Carnival at Dove Holes and Base Open Day

It’s Carnival Day in Dove Holes this Saturday and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team will be joining in the fun and frolics.  

Events start at 1.00 pm and the weather forecast is fine.  Following last year’s success the team will again be entering the procession with the team Land Rover being decorated for the occasion.

After the procession the Dove Holes Team Base will be open for visitors and you are welcome to have a look around at the equipment old and new.

Open Garden Raises £100.

In July the “Three Villages Open Garden Event” took place which encourages the residents of Sutton, Langley and Lyme Green near Macclesfield to invite members of the public to visit their gardens.  Over twenty gardens were opened including a special one owned by Pam and John Gawthorpe of Peter House Road, Sutton Lane Ends.

Dozens of people passed through the garden to view the result of many hours of dedication to all things that grow.  Many of the visitors took advantage of Pam’s sale of her speciality plants, Hostas. …

Team Recognises the Deeds of Others

On Wednesday 23 rd July, a group of young people from Nottingham NCS (National Citizenship Service) were coming to the end of a full  day of activities on the Staffordshire Roaches when they came upon an elderly man who had sustained a twisted ankle.  The man was in some pain and rather distressed having put his foot down a hole.

Billerettes £500 Donation.

The world famous, “Bill’s Billerettes” have made a fantastic donation the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.  Troop Leader Bill Weston MBE, presented BMRT Fundraising Officer, Peter Farrer with a cheque for £500 just as the 2014 carnival was about to parade through Buxton.  The Billerettes have raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities with their performances at carnivals and parades over nearly forty years.

Teams Join in Party to Celebrate 50 Years Together.

Its not just the 50th anniversary of Buxton Team, it’s also 50 years since the foundation of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation.

New Vehicle Appeal – Half Way There!

A generous donation from the town’s “Billerettes” was enough for the Team’s £50,000 for Fifty Years Service New Vehicle Appeal to reach a landmark stage.

Half the required money is now safely in the team’s coffers and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has been able place an order for its new Incident Control Vehicle.

The model chosen for the base vehicle is a Ford Transit 350, all-wheel drive with high top and long wheelbase.  The decision followed detailed research of available models and an unbeatable offer of help and support from GK Ford …

Along with many other residents, Macclesfield MP David Rutley was able to find out more about the important work of our local mountain rescue team. He also saw how the team use high-tech casualty bags and modern stretchers to get injured walkers and climbers off the hills to access the full medical services that they need. Thanks to the people of Macclesfield, the fundraising event raised £292.
