Cemex, Dove Holes Quarrymen step up to the Challenge!

A team of twelve nightshift workers from CEMEX Dove Holes Quarry has successfully completed the company’s Pedometer Event raising £620 for the rescue team.

New Team Start Training

Being a member of a mountain rescue team is a very rewarding but challenging task requiring dedication and a lot of commitment.  Buxton Mountain Rescue Team is always looking for new members to boost its operation strength or who can help with a myriad of support roles.

F.I.T. runner take a box.

F.I.T., otherwise known as Friends In Training, is a Stoke based running club whose members encourage each other to achieve their own personal running goals.  Individual targets vary from being able to run just a mile to being able to complete a 100 mile race.   The club’s members like to get out and about all over the area and can be found training all around Buxton and The Roaches as well as nearer to home.

Do you have to tidy up before you can go out on a call-out?

When team members visited The Bishop Pursglove Primary School at Tideswell they were prepared for a barrage of questions about how mountain rescue operates and what sort of equipment the team uses.  However, they may not have been as prepared as they thought because it’s always the unexpected question that catches you out!

Buxton Rambling Club in a Stew


We walk the peaks and dales

Members of Buxton Rambling Club meet every weekend and most Wednesdays for walks in the Peak District at various distances and levels of ability.  Each year in October the members hold a Hot Pot Supper at St Ann’s Church Hall in Buxton and invite a guest speaker.   This year, on seeing the Buxton Well’s Dressings in July, the club decided to invite Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and hear more about the team’s Golden Anniversary.

Fifty Years Old. It’s official!

Founded in 1964, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team is fifty years old this year and the Golden Anniversary was made official at a black tie dinner on Saturday evening.  The team was officially “Off Call” for twelve hours whilst team members could relax with friends and family.  The last time the team was declared Off Call was for the 25th Anniversary celebrations in 1989.

Ninety members, past and present and some travelling from abroad, celebrated at the Palace Hotel with a formal dinner.  The meal was followed by speeches from the Charity Chairman, Richard Doran and Operational Team Leader, Neil Carruthers.

Athletic Support

No, it’s not a bandage!  

It was the fifty-five runners who took part in the Buxton Athletic Club’s five kilometre run last weekend.  Following the event club members sold homemade cakes and raised a magnificent £88. for the rescue team’s funds.  This was added to a great donation of £125 as a reward for assisting with the marshaling on the annual Buxton Half Marathon race held earlier in the year.
