Team Find Beavers in Sutton.

Scotland takes the biscuit with food knowledge quiz.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Quiz number eight quiz was all about finding places and towns with an article of food or drink hidden in the name.   Over 200 people from all over the U.K. took on the challenge which was set by our very own Quiz Mistress, Gillian Halliday from Boston in Lincolnshire.
Individual quiz sales added to extra donations brought the total raised to £279 which brings the total raised so far from all Gillian’s quizzes to £1,633.  That’s a magnificent contribution to the team and reflects a lot of hard work and dedication by Gill.

A Christmas Cracker

It was a Christmas Cracker but not everyone got a joke!
Staffordshire Athletic Club has supported the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team for many years with a share of the proceeds from its Annual Christmas Cracker 8 K fell race over the Roaches starting from Tittesworth Reservoir.  In return, team members provide first aid cover and assist marshalling over the more exposed parts of the route.

Exam Stress


More than just sticking plasters!
Following three months of intensive training and practical exercises twelve team members sharpened their pencils on Sunday ready for the final examination in Casualty Care.

The course syllabus and examination are set by rescue’s national body, Mountain Rescue England & Wales, and concentrates on the special skills necessary to aid a casualty in remote locations and where professional help may be hours away.  It takes the standard first aid course up to the next level preparing team members to offer initial assessment, treatment and ongoing care …

Independent Support

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has just received a magnificent donation from The Buxton Independent Group, a group supporting the  independent councillors in the High Peak.

High Peak Councillor, Linda Baldry and her husband, Robin Baldry, presented a cheque worth £400 to team members, Peter Farrer and Geoff Sumner on Friday morning in a wintery Buxton.

The donation was raised at the annual dinner of the Independent Group and is another welcome boost to the team’s New Vehicle Appeal.   Many, many thanks to all who supported the fundraising event and who made the generous donation possible….

A Very, Very New Member

Born in the early hours of Thursday, Daisy Shaw, weighing 7.2 lbs.

Proud parents are team members Ruth and Rowan Shaw and all three are doing well!   All the team members send a hearty “Congratulations” to the happy family for their early and very special Christmas present.

Training starts tonight at 19.30 hrs – no excuses!

Macclesfield Castle Rotary

Following a presentation to The Macclesfield Castle Rotary Club, its members elected to donate £200 to the rescue team.

The presentation was entitled, “The History of Mountain Rescue” and was delivered by team member and co-author of a book by the same title, Roger Bennett.  The talk and slide show followed a meal at Macclesfield Golf Club which was attended by around fifty Rotary members.

The Rotary Club supports many good causes and it was a great surprise to the team that the donation was so generous.   The money will go directly into the New Vehicle …

Early Christmas Present from The Big Lottery Fund

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has just received an early Christmas present from The Big Lottery Fund.
The rescue team, which like all civilian mountain rescue teams is entirely dependent on charitable gifts, has just been successful in its bid for a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery. The donation is a welcome contribution to the team’s year-long appeal to raise £50,000 for the replacement of a specialist vehicle.

Bryan Allison Remembered.

Team members today sadly attended the funeral of 81 year old veteran team member, Bryan Allison of Sutton near Macclesfield.

Bryan had been with the team since the early 1980s and was a very active operational member until well after his retirement age.  Bryan was also a voluntary Ranger for the Peak District National Park for many years and had a detailed knowledge of the Macclesfield Forest area.  A knowledge that was very useful to the rescue team on a number of occasions.
