Team chosen to be TSB “Charity of the Year”!

The TSB Buxton Branch has chosen the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team as its Local Charity Partner for 2015.
This week, Dave Goodman, Fundraising Manager for the rescue team, visited the branch on Spring Gardens, Buxton, to collect an initial cheque of £100.  The local TSB branch will be holding several fundraising activities throughout the year, including “guess the hamper value?”, a coffee morning, “how far will Ted travel on his holidays?”   Several of the branch staff will also bravely take part in a sponsored abseil.

Emergency Services Day 2015

Find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the people that help others in distress including some you probably weren’t aware of.  Displays ongoing throughout the day with some lively and dramatic demonstrations.

A great day out for all the family including the younger ones.  Meet Bernard, the team’s mascot search dog, and members of the team who can tell you what it takes to join the rescue team. Try your hand at rock climbing in complete safety on the teams own portable crag wall.

Twelve Years of Service and on to a new life.

After twelve years of faithful service the team’s old Control Vehicle has been sold to Severn Area Rescue Association where it will start a new life with the water rescue unit.

The Ford Transit started life with Buxton MRT in 2003 when, following an appeal, the vehicle was donated by Macro Motor Services.  It served eight years as a minibus based at Dove Holes with a primary role of transporting team members from the rendezvous point to the nearest access gate on to the moors.  In 2011 it took on …

Channel 4

During the winter the rescue team was approached by a film production company working for Channel 4 television.  The company, RAW Television, was making a program about how bad weather effects peoples lives in Britain.  As a result Buxton Mountain Rescue Team will be featured in the finished program going out Sunday night 12th, at 8.00 pm.

Ready for the Bank Holiday

The myriad of skills necessary to part of a mountain rescue team means that Buxton Mountain Rescue Team trains every Thursday evening throughout the year.   Whether you’ve been in the team just four days of forty years, keeping up to speed with new developments demands that every member attends regular training.

In Memory of Ted Martin

Donations totalling nearly £400 have been made to The Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation in memory of the late Ted Martin from Codnor, Derbyshire who died in January this year.

Ted and his beloved wife, Barbara, spent many years cycling and rambling in the Peak District and his family decided to nominate The P.D.M.R.O. as a beneficiary from collections made at is funeral.

The Langley Lectures

Organised by Langley Methodist Church, The Langley Lectures are a series of talks aimed at providing an opportunity for people to come together and learn more about the locality and the world.  The lectures present a wide variety of subjects from politics to health and from faith to science and the natural world.

For the final talk of the winter series Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was invited to give a presentation on the work of mountain rescue in the Peak District providing an insight to the challenges and rewards of being a member.

Trefoil Support

Chapel Trefoil Guild is probably the smallest organisation to ever make a donation to the team but £100 is still a very generous and welcome gift.  Just five ladies form the guild which meets monthly and one of their key aims is to raise money for local charities.
