MP Shakes a Bucket

Residents of Macclesfield gave generously when Buxton Mountain Rescue scaled the lofty heights of Macclesfield’s Market Place over the weekend.

Despite the team having to disappear to a call-out in the middle of the day, the fundraising event raised £311.

Bank Staff Go Over The Edge for Charity

Four intrepid and brave staff members from the Buxton branch of TSB took part in a sponsored abseil in aid of Buxton Mountain Rescue on Wednesday night.  There were some petrified faces in Miller’s Dale as each adventurer slowly lowered themselves over the edge and down the seventy foot drop to safety and solid ground.

Calling all D I Y experts, it’s Quiz Time!

Results of the team quiz number nine have just been released and the lucky winners have been announced by the team’s own Quizmaster, Gillian Halliday.
Taking first prize in the quiz, which was all about the names of places in the British Isles containing types of transport, is Mrs P Hellier of Taunton, Somerset.  Second prize was won by Mrs P Parkes from St. Brelade in Jersey.  Congratulations to both winners and their cash prizes are on the way.

Explorer Scouts visit H.Q.

As part of the Staffordshire County Scout Commissioners 2015 Challenge Leek’s Monkey Explorer Scouts recently visited Buxton Mountain Rescue Team’s Headquarters at Dove Holes.

After a short presentation about the work of the team, the twenty youngsters were shown the wealth of equipment carried on the team’s response vehicles.  They also experienced the weight carried by rescuers on a call out.  Explorer, Oliver Barlow, then took the roll of casualty and his fellow scouts placed him in a vacuum mattress.  Safely in the ‘full body splint’, he was loaded onto …

Buxton MRT sends congratulations to award recipients.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team sends its “congratulations” to three members of mountain rescue who have been awarded recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for their voluntary work.  Dr Geoff Bowen of Langdale Ambleside MRT and John Hulse, Team Leader Ogwen Valley MRT both received an M.B.E..
The team sends special congratulations to Steve Hilditch, who recently stepped down as Team Leader of Derby Mountain Rescue Team after 34 years in the role, who was also awarded an M.B.E..
Steve has been a team member for over 46 years and after spending 34 years …

Call-out to Wilmslow

On a raining evening in May, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, was called out, or should that be “called in” to a special task in Wilmslow.

Retiring Mayor helps the team.

Buxton Mountain was honoured to be invited to a special evening held at Buxton’s Pavillion Gardens last Friday.

Retiring Mayor, Alan Barrow, presented a number of local charities a portion of the funds raised by the High Peak Mayoral Charity Committee throughout the last year.

Team Leader Neil Carruthers and Fundraising Manager Dave Goodman attended the event on behalf of the team together with a significant number of representatives from other local charities each receiving generous donations towards their funds.

Team chosen to be TSB “Charity of the Year”!

The TSB Buxton Branch has chosen the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team as its Local Charity Partner for 2015.
This week, Dave Goodman, Fundraising Manager for the rescue team, visited the branch on Spring Gardens, Buxton, to collect an initial cheque of £100.  The local TSB branch will be holding several fundraising activities throughout the year, including “guess the hamper value?”, a coffee morning, “how far will Ted travel on his holidays?”   Several of the branch staff will also bravely take part in a sponsored abseil.
