It was a chance meeting whilst members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were fundraising in Macclesfield that led to “The Macclesfield Women’s Friendship Group” inviting the team to explain more about mountain rescue at one of their meetings.

In late June this year BBC Radio 4’s “Open Country” program met up with team members at Pooles Cavern, Buxton.

The team was about to embark on one of its regular evening training exercises, on this occasion, in Grinlow Woods, Buxton.  Willing “victims” were secreted about the country park waiting for enthusiastic rescue members to find them and treat their injuries.  Especially recruited to help for the night were Open Country presenter, Helen Mark and producer, Martin Poyntz-Roberts.

Local couple, Tegg and Laura, (yes, Tegg is his real name!), have opened a tea room in the warden’s building at Tegg’s Nose Country Park near Macclesfield.  They have given up secure, well paid, jobs to begin a new adventure providing tea, coffee, cake and pork pies to walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers and anyone else who happens to pop into Tegg’s Nose.

Chapel en le Frith Ladies Choir has been singing together in the High Peak for over forty years and now has a considerable reputation for its quality and harmony.

However, it was pound notes rather than musical notes which the ladies brought to Buxton team’s base last Thursday night.  The choir had adopted the rescue team as its charity of the year and managed to raise a magnificent £851 through various events and concerts.  Three ladies represented the choir for the presentation and were probably surprised to be met by …

Last Thursday night at the Dove Holes base of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, the official commissioning of the team’s new response vehicle took place. The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of High Peak, Cllr Stuart Young and Miss Charlotte Young and David Coleman, Deputy Lord- Lieutenant for Derbyshire, President of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation and former Derbyshire Chief Constable. Several representatives of major donors to the team also came along to the informal gathering.

Suzanne Hailey, Broadcast Journalist with BBC North West Tonight, approached the team in relation to a series of short articles the BBC are recording about mountain rescue.

When a small local business was about to celebrate four years of trading the owner decided  to help the rescue team.

Buxton business, ‘One Small Step’ is a small shop on Hall Bank trading in quality kids’ shoes and accessories.  To start the celebrations owner, Nichola Seargeant, held a raffle for her friends and customers with the proceeds going to the team.

Team member Darren went along on behalf of the team to receive the £45 donation and offer the team’s sincere thanks for the generosity of all the customers who participated.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members were sad hear of the passing of Edith Oulton who died peacefully at her home on 16th July, shortly before her 94th birthday.
Edith, a Buxton resident, was an avid supporter of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.  She made regular donations over a great many years and enjoyed keeping up to date with team news.  She even bought lottery tickets on occasions in the hope she may win money for the team.  She was therefore delighted to hear that the team had achieved its funding …

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a scheme open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England and is aimed at building skills for work and life.  Candidates take on new challenges and meet new friends.  It runs in the spring, summer and autumn each year and usually involves taking part in a team project that will help the local community.  NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. Long time Buxton team supporter and Associate Member, Ian Hodgson, has just joined a select number of people who have completed all the 282 Scottish Munros.

Munros are Scottish mountains over 3,000 foot high (914 metres) and are named after Sir Hugh Munro who first produced the list in 1891.  In the next 124 years only about 5,700 have completed the lot so, when Ian climbed An Socach in Glen Affric (944 meters) in June, it was the summit of a long held ambition.
