A fell runner will be taking on his biggest challenge yet – seven marathons in a week – to raise money for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.
Ben Brindley, of Whitecross Avenue in Tideswell, believes the work the team does is amazing and wants to help them out by raising money and awareness.
The 33-year-old said: “They are an emergency service but rely solely on donation. I have always given to the charity as an insurance policy but now I want to do more.”

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members, Roger Bennett and Rob Wymer, were pleased to visit Waitrose supermarket in Buxton this week to receive a cheque for £563 from Community Matters organiser, Julie Atkinson.

Buxton MRT was one of three charities to share £1,000 of the Waitrose monthly donation to local good causes.  The proportion of the share is decided by customers indicating their preference with tokens at the checkout.  To receive such a large donation was a real surprise and a indication of how much the local community appreciates …

On a chilly Friday in December 2015, a smartly dressed elderly gentleman set off on a 200-mile journey from west London to Saddleworth Moor, in the Pennines.

The following afternoon he stopped in at a picturesque pub called The Clarence and, pointing to Indian’s Head, a 1,500ft peak above Dovestone reservoir, asked the landlord, “How do you get to the top of that mountain?”

This week Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was pleased to announce the winner of its 2015 Christmas Raffle and present the first prize to, Steve Rathbone of Rainow.

The prize was a £200 voucher kindly donated by The Bike Factory of Whaley Bridge.  The presentation was made at the shop in Whaley Bridge where the voucher was formally handed over.

Whilst we are all getting a bit fed up with the wet, windy weather which seems to have become locally our winter, spare a thought for those who still train to meet the harshest of conditions.
Trainee search and rescue dog, Isla with handler Mark Williams headed north to Scotland at Christmas for a SARDA training session at Glenshee.  There was no shortage of snow up there as the dogs were put through their paces learning how to work in challenging conditions.

The members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wish all their helpers and supporters, “A very Happy Christmas and a safe and peaceful New Year.”

The team also wishes to say a big “Thank You” and send special greetings to the members of all the other emergency services with which mountain rescue teams frequently work. The High Peak is surrounded by several different police, ambulance and fire services so rescue team members meet dozens of folk in uniform but rarely get to know their names.

Ten members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team joined hundreds of other rescue team members, scouts, friends and family at Derby Cathedral Church on Friday for a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Steve Hilditch.

Steve had dedicated his life to helping others in so many different ways and the packed Cathedral was a testament to the inspirational voluntary work he has done for numerous organisations.

A scout from the age of five he became involved with mountain rescue following the 1964 Four Inns tragedy.  He went on to become Team Leader …
