High Peak Mayor gives a blanket donation.

Buxton Mountain Rescue was honoured to be invited once again to a special presentation evening held at Buxton’s Pavillion Gardens last Friday.

Thieves target team member’s vehicle

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has made a plea to the public keep an eye out for branded equipment after thieves broke into a private vehicle and stole a volunteer’s rescue equipment.
 

The incident occurred in Whaley Bridge during the night of Tuesday when a team member’s car was entered by breaking the window glass.   A quantity of personal property was taken along with equipment and clothing belonging to the rescue team.

All the equipment the volunteer had in his possession was taken, including his team radio, waterproof jackets, helmets, fleeces, protection googles and other gear.  The clothing and equipment is of …

Dr Anthony (Tony) Jones M.B.E.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members have been saddened to hear of the death on Friday of a stalwart supporter of mountain rescue since the 1960s, Dr Anthony Jones M.B.E.

Tony first joined Ogwen Valley MRT in 1966 later becoming its Chairman, a post he held for twenty-one years.  He also served on the Mountain Rescue Committee (now Mountain Rescue England and Wales) for many years holding the post of Vice-Chairman.

Buxton hosts regional controllers’ and leaders’ day

Last Sunday around thirty rescue team leaders and incident controllers from across the Peak District assembled at  Buxton Fire & Rescue Station for a morning of discussion and idea sharing.

It was just one in a regular series of meetings held to ensure that all the independent teams are adopting best practices and working to the same standards.  Mountain rescue is continuing to develop and these meetings ensure that new technology and ideas are shared for the benefit of all casualties wherever in the region an incident occur…

Nice Nosh makes a final donation

After ten years serving food and drinks to the visitors in Macclesfield Forest John Sellors has recently served his last customer but even then he couldn’t forget his friends at Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

For his last day John very generously provided free food and encouraged customers to make a donation to the local Mountain Rescue Team. Ted Burton M.B.E.

It is with great regret that Buxton Mountain Rescue Team announces the death of Honorary Team Member, Ted Burton M.B.E.

Ted was the team’s leader from 1975 to 1989, a period which saw great changes and developments in mountain rescue.  It was during this time that Buxton team became the only team in the Country to also be a division of St John Ambulance.  In 1977 the team established its first independent base after negotiations with Dove Holes Quarry secured the free use of an old stone barn.  A program of modernisation was started to renew both equipment and vehicles.  Ted’s leadership period has been recognised as the start of the …

Seven Marathons in Seven Days

A fell runner will be taking on his biggest challenge yet – seven marathons in a week – to raise money for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.
Ben Brindley, of Whitecross Avenue in Tideswell, believes the work the team does is amazing and wants to help them out by raising money and awareness.
The 33-year-old said: “They are an emergency service but rely solely on donation. I have always given to the charity as an insurance policy but now I want to do more.”
