Queen's Birthday Honour for team member.

A Team Member for 42 years, Peter Farrer, of Chapel en le Frith, has been made a Member of the British Empire by H.M. The Queen for his services to Mountain Rescue.

Rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb

Who would think there’s money in rhubarb?

However, one team supporter has raised over £30 for team funds through selling her surplus rhubarb.  I didn’t dare ask what makes it taste so good!

Forest Chapel, a special service

Sunday 5th June.  A beautiful summers day set a glorious backdrop for the service attended by around fifty people in one of the most scenic churches in the Peak District. This was the setting for the third year of what has become an annual service kindly dedicated to Buxton MRT.

A cycling tribute to raise funds

Born in 1916, in Consett, County Durham, Thomas Rees, like many others, started work down the coal mine.  Sadly an accident stopped him working and as part of his recuperation he took a holiday n Newhaven, Sussex and whilst there bought a bike to cycle home on.

On the way home he called at the Swan Inn in Chailey, Sussex, and met a young woman named Mary who was buying a jug of beer for her father.  To cut a long story short Thomas and Mary married in 1941 and …

Teams in Joint Goyt Valley exercise

The Goyt Valley near Buxton is a very popular rambling and dog-walking area and is busy on most days of the week all year round.

The valley includes two reservoirs, numerous paths and tracks to the tops of the hills and hundreds of acres of forest and dense vegetation.  Dealing with a known location accident in the area would be bad enough but the report of someone missing would cause a significant problem and too big to handle for any one team.

Consequently, at the weekend, Kinder M.R.T. joined forces with …

Buxton, have generously supported Buxton Mountain Rescue Team in the past and have yet again made a great contribution to the team.

It was Andy Harby of Interserve Facilities Management who challenged the Health and Safety men to a charity football match.  The game was played at the Peak Dale ground on a bitterly cold evening but, with pride and honour at stake, it was played with great spirit.  After a closely fought game the …
