New Team Vehicle Unveiled

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team this week unveiled the latest addition to its response vehicle fleet with delivery of a new Toyota Hilux 4 wheel drive.
The Hilux will become the team’s primary response vehicle and will attend nearly every call-out received.  It will replace the team’s current primary response Land Rover, which is now over ten years old, and will enable continued access to casualties via tracks and unmade roads as well as providing an all year, all weather capability on the roads.

Team Members tie the knot

This was not your simple bowline, this was the full marriage hitch.
Good news at last for the team when members Tom Bradshaw and Charlie Arnold married on Saturday in the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton.  It was a beautiful spring day for the service which took place under the band-stand in the gardens.  Team member Josh Hall was Best Man so it was truly a team event.

The Funeral of Ian Hurst M.B.E, J.P.

The funeral of Ian Hurst M.B.E., J.P. took place at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday 6th April at Christ’s Church, Burbage, Buxton.

It was a cold and blustery day but nearly one hundred fellow mountain rescuers from teams across the Peak District lined the churchyard to pay tribute to a man who was Buxton Team’s President and who had voluntarily served the community for over fifty years.

The funeral of Ian Hurst will take place at Christ Church Burbage, 125 St John’s Rd, Buxton, SK17 9AA on Thursday, 6th April at 2.30 pm.  Following the service all friends are invited to join the family for light refreshment at Cavendish Golf Club, Watford Rd, Buxton. SK17 6XF.

Death of Team President, Ian Hurst.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team is deeply saddened to announce the death of its Honorary President, Ian Hurst M.B.E. on Wednesday 22nd March.
Ian was a member of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team for twenty-six years but his involvement with mountain rescue in the Peak District goes back to the very beginning of the regional organisation in 1964.  In fact Ian, as a then voluntary warden with the Peak District National Park Authority, was already regularly dealing with mountain accidents when the 1964 Four Inns tragedy gave rise to the formation of the Peak …

Search Dog Megan Takes Well Deserved Retirement

On Boxing Day 2016 Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Search Dog, Megan, reached the age of 12.  Megan’s handler and owner, Dave, decided that at this age it was time for Megan to put her paws up from operational duties and retire.

Megan was born in Buxworth in December 2004.  At the age of 14 weeks she went to live with Dave who started the process of training her as an air scenting search dog. Megan successfully passed her first assessments in June 2007 and started work immediately.

Team Pupdate and congratulations to Isla

Trainee Search Dog Isla, with her handler Mark Williams, made a significant step forward last week in their ambition to pass out as a fully accredited Mountain Rescue Search Dog unit.  Isla passed her stage One Indication Test which is a key accomplishment.
The test takes place in woodland under the scrutiny of  S.A.R.D.A examiners and the dog has to find a number bodies and then return to their handler unprompted.  On each return the dog must give a strong indication of the find.  The dog must …

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wishes to send a great big “THANK YOU” to everyone who has supported the rescue team during 2016.

It has been another busy year from a call-out perspective and the team’s response is only made possible by the help and generosity of so many people.

Attending nearly one hundred incidents in a year can become a burden to the volunteer members but when the local community demonstrates such appreciation and support it gives a real boost to the enthusiasm of those responding.

A cut above the rest.

When a new gents hairdressers came to town the owner, Chris Abbott, looked for two charities to help with the opening day promotion.

Barbers at 3 is the third shop Chris has opened locally and to celebrate the opening event he decided to donate all the takings from the day to charity splitting the money between Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Blythe House Hospice.  To add to the donation the shop is running a raffle (£2 a ticket) to be drawn on Christmas Eve with the lucky winner receiving free …

Joint exercise with Staffordshire Fire & Rescue

Following an incident (51) on The Roaches in July when Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members found themselves working alongside two fire crews from Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, a plan was formed to meet-up again in order for the two organisations to get to know each other better.
