Old friends move on.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wishes to say a public “Thank You” to Penny and Andy Chapman of Buxton’s High Street News.

Penny and Andy have been great supporters of the rescue team and have hosted a B.M.R.T. charity collection box on the counter of their shop for five years.   The collection box has raised £1,250 over the years in contributions from customers and friends.  Now they are leaving the business and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wants to acknowledge their personal help and the …

Have you ever seen a Trout Run?

Macclesfield Harriers and & Athletic Clubs host a 9.5 K fell race as part of the Wincle Village Fete and Buxton M.R.T. was invited along to join in the fun.
The small village of Wincle on the Cheshire / Staffordshire border always enjoys a good turn out on fete day and this year the weather was kind to all who attended.   Team members were on hand to explain just what mountain rescue is all about and how to make contact should you ever need assistance on the hills.   …

Family Fun Day, Macclesfield.

The sun shone at Moss Rose on Sunday  (well, in between the showers!)  the Macclesfield’s Family Fun Day held at the football stadium.   The weather forecast had not dampened spirits as crowds of families turned up making the day a great success.  The event also doubled as a dog show with many family mongrels all looking their best.
A few members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team went along to support the day and Bernard, the team’s own mascot, was hoping for a prize but no such luck.
What was …

Coastguard helicopter visits dove holes

A Coastguard Search & Rescue Helicopter flew into Dove Holes on Sunday landing on the Bullring, just a stone’s throw from the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team’s base.  The noise and down-draught from the aircraft brought many locals out to watch it practice rescue techniques with team members.
Bristows took over the helicopter search and rescue responsibility for the Peak District from the R.A.F. in 2015 flying the Coastguard aircraft out of their newly built base at Humberside Airport.   Despite the distance the Sikorsky S-92, with an air speed of …

Ian Hurst. Team say "Thank You" for all the thoughts and donations.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wishes to say a sincere “Thank You” to all the individuals and groups who made a donation to the team in memory of our late Team President, Ian Hurst.
Our thanks also to Ian’s widow Zan and her family for so generously nominating the rescue team to benefit from the donations.  Their consideration for the needs of others at such a sad and difficult time was a really generous gesture.
The Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has so far received nearly £600 in memory of Ian and we can pledge that every penny of the gifts will go towards …

High Peak Mayoral Charities Committee Donation.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team is very pleased to report that the High Peak Mayoral Charities Committee has once again made a generous donation to the team’s funds.  The Mayoral Charity has supported the team for several years and each donation has really been appreciated.  Dontaions are the life blood of the rescue team and it could not operate without such generosity.
At a presentation event, held on Wednesday afternoon 10th May,  Buxton M.R.T. was just one of a large number of local charities to benefit from the year long appeal.  The …

Bollington Brewery Three Peaks Race

Last Sunday, 7th May, the Bollington Brewery Three Peaks fell race ran once again.  Not to be confused with the National Three Peaks Challenge which takes in the highest point of the three home nations, this one is a little shorter and the hills a little smaller.  However, set over 5.7 miles of rough and steep terrain, runners face a 1,200 ft ascent traversing Kerridge Hill, White Nancy and Nab Hill, this is still a significant challenge especially if you want to beat this year’s winning time of 38 …

Zack passes over but continues to raise money

Zack was a Springer Spaniel and the beloved pet of one of our team members.  He wasn’t a rescue dog, more of a rescued dog who just loved to be on mountains.  Sadly Zack was put to sleep on Sunday aged 12 due to kidney failure.
He was neglected for the first two years of his life and became scared of everything especially men.  When rescued it was socialising with the team members that gave him back his confidence and he went on to live a very fulfilled life climbing …

Buxton May Day Spring Fair

The May Day street fair held all over Buxton on Bank Holiday Monday was a terrific success as the sun came from behind the clouds.
A grey and rather drizzly start to the day threatened to dampen enthusiasm but, just before lunchtime, the sun came out and so did the crowds.  The fair, now a regular annual event in Buxton on May Day, takes over the whole town with market stalls, street music, Morris-men and dancers performing from the top of the town and down the main street.  Nearly every …
