Hassan is working hard in preparation for his mega bike ride through Ireland.  The training has had to go up a gear in readiness for the start in just another few days. Hassan leaves for the green hills of Ireland on 16th September urged on in the knowledge that his sponsorship has now gone up to £2,157.

Willow's scary moment in Grinlow Woods

Willow, a  nine month old King Charles Spaniel was out for a walk on Monday afternoon in Grindow woods when her eye was caught by a local rabbit.
In her eagerness to play with her new friend she found herself at the top of a sheer drop overlooking the Grindow Caravan Park.  Despite the efforts of her family to encourage Willow away from the edge but were not able to reach her and thought they may be putting themselves in danger.

MOUNTAIN RESCUE CALL-OUT STATISTICS

Mountain Rescue England & Wales has recently released its “Review of the Year” for 2016 which includes the call-out statistics for the whole national organisation.  Not surprisingly, the general trend is an increase in the number of times that individual teams are being called out each year although the total number of people assisted has dropped just slightly from 2015.
During 2016 the member teams of M.R.E.W. received 2,074 calls from 32 different statutory agencies which resulted in 1,812 call-outs.   A total of 1,785 people were assisted of which …

Member swaps climbing helmet for mortarboard

Just to prove we are not all brawn and no brain team member, Thomas Bradshaw, graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University yesterday with a 2:1 Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Studies.
Tom is making a career in the outdoors and some of his newly learnt skills may just be useful in the mountain rescue world.  Unfortunately the pay for mountain rescue members remains the same whatever your qualifications !
Congratulations, well done Tom.

Buxton Mountain Rescue sends a huge “Thank You” to all those who responded to our request to visit Sainbury’s web-site and vote for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team to become the store’s Buxton branch, Charity of the Year.
The team heard just this week that B.M.R.T. had topped the public poll and would be adopted as the Sainsbury’s Buxton branch, charity in a scheme that will provide support for the team for the next twelve months.  All the collection boxes in the Market Place store will …

Elephant Raffle at Chapel Haberdashery

It may be only a small shop situated on Market Street in Chapel en le Frith but the staff and customers have raised a wonderful £170 to help Buxton Mountain rescue Team.
Sew Chapel Haberdashery is in the The Old Hearse House which, built in 1818, is where the parish undertaker’s cart was housed with maybe one or two customers.  The small room upstairs was occupied by the undertaker to watch over his clients in a time when body snatching was prevalent.  An unusual setting for a …

A new Way-sign for the Peak District

The Peak District Boundary Walk is a new long distance walk which completely encircles the national park.  The complete walk is 190 miles long but is conveniently split into twenty stages encouraging people to complete it all in one or on daily visits over a longer period.
