Willow, a  nine month old King Charles Spaniel was out for a walk on Monday afternoon in Grindow woods when her eye was caught by a local rabbit.
In her eagerness to play with her new friend she found herself at the top of a sheer drop overlooking the Grindow Caravan Park.  Despite the efforts of her family to encourage Willow away from the edge but were not able to reach her and thought they may be putting themselves in danger.

Mountain Rescue England & Wales has recently released its “Review of the Year” for 2016 which includes the call-out statistics for the whole national organisation.  Not surprisingly, the general trend is an increase in the number of times that individual teams are being called out each year although the total number of people assisted has dropped just slightly from 2015.
During 2016 the member teams of M.R.E.W. received 2,074 calls from 32 different statutory agencies which resulted in 1,812 call-outs.   A total of 1,785 people were assisted of which …

Just to prove we are not all brawn and no brain team member, Thomas Bradshaw, graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University yesterday with a 2:1 Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Studies.
Tom is making a career in the outdoors and some of his newly learnt skills may just be useful in the mountain rescue world.  Unfortunately the pay for mountain rescue members remains the same whatever your qualifications !

The Peak District Boundary Walk is a new long distance walk which completely encircles the national park.  The complete walk is 190 miles long but is conveniently split into twenty stages encouraging people to complete it all in one or on daily visits over a longer period.
