The Buxton team were called out at 12:00 to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service, to assist with the hospital transfer of a 72 year old male. The property was up a steep icy hill which made the transfer difficult. The male transferred to BMRT stretcher which was sledged down to the road whilst secured by a back rope, where an ambulance was waiting to transfer the patient to Stepping Hill Hospital.
The team was called in the early hours the morning by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) to assist with transporting a patient from a farmhouse in the Brandside area south of Buxton.
Thirteen team members attended and after wrapping the patient in an insulated casualty bag, carried the patient through snow drifts to a waiting ambulance on the nearest road. The patient was then transferred to Stepping Hill Hospital for further assessment.
Once the EMAS ambulance was safely back in Buxton, team members returned to base to sort and dry kit. Team members then returned home to catch a few hours sleep …
Eight local team members responded to a call for assistance from Edale MRT for a tobogganist with a lower leg injury. The incident was concurrent with the Goyt’s Lane incident in which a number of Buxton Team Members were already involved.
The male from South Derbyshire suffered a suspected fracture in an accident on the lower slopes of Mam Tor above the Rushup Edge Road. He was treated by an Edale Team doctor and team members before being wrapped in a vacuum mattress and casualty bag ready for evacuation to a waiting EMAS ambulance.

The team was called to Goyts Lane to assist members of the public with difficulties resulting from snow fall.

The Buxton team were called by Derbyshire Police to recover a family of four including young children who had become stuck on a very steep and ice covered section of Lesser Lane above Combs. The family and their vehicle were safely recovered back to Combs village.

Twenty one team members, our control vehicle (Mobile 3) and the Hilux (Mobile 1) responded to a callout to assist Cheshire Police and Cheshire Search and Rescue to search for a missing person. The team was eventually stood down as the missing person was found safe and well, outside of our initial search area.
The Team was called to search for a family walking on the Kinder plateau who reported themselves as lost.
Initial attempts to locate the missing couple by the team leading the search were not successful and the search was therefore escalated to four teams, Buxton, Kinder, Edale and Glossop assisted by search dogs. A subsequent attempt to locate them using the SARLOC application was successful, and the couple who were approximately 400 metres north of Kinder Low just off the Pennine Way, were found and accompanied to safety by members from Kinder team
Buxton team members had just returned to their fundraising duties in Castleton when a second call came in to assist Edale team with a fallen climber at Burbage North. Seven team members were dispatched and assisted Edale with the evacuation of a male climber from below Higger Tor up to the waiting ambulance at Upper Burbage Bridge car park.
Whilst taking part in Buxton MRT’s annual Christmas street collection in Castleton, the first of three calls for the day materialised. The team were approached by a passer-by about a 52 year old lady who had collapsed near to the Visitor Centre. Her friends had vitally put her in the recovery position immediately. After initial assessment by a team first-aider, and a few concerning moments she slowly improved following treatment with oxygen and insulating from a cold day in a casualty bag.
