Macclesfield Forest

As the team was packing away the equipment used for the previous call out to Mam Tor, a request was received from North West Ambulance Service to assist with an injured mountain biker in Macclesfield Forest.

The team quickly diverted to Macclesfield Forest where they were informed by the Ranger exactly where the casualty was. The ambulance personnel were already on scene and had prepared the injured male teenager for a stretcher carry off, by administering pain relief and immobilising the injury. Mam Tor, Castleton

The team was requested to attend a joint snatch rescue, along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team. The incident involved two people who had become crag-fast on the face of Mam Tor. Both teams worked together to build a rope system to rescue the casualties, and get them back to safer ground.

Higher Hurdsfield, Nr Macclesfield

The team was requested, along with Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, to assist Cheshire Search and Rescue in an ongoing search for a missing person in the Macclesfield area.

The teams were briefed at the rv point and given areas of the adjacent countryside to search. In a controlled and systematic way, each section set about searching their own areas. The areas were very difficult to search, on occasions team members were just a few metres apart from each other in order that nothing was missed.

Losehill, Castleton

The team was called along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team to assist a walker who had fainted and sustained a lower leg injury. As is common practice, especially mid week,  both teams were called out to ensure as much help could be provided as quickly as possible.

The walker had fallen whilst on the Great Ridge above Losehill Farm.   East Midlands Ambulance Service was on scene and was able to escort the casualty to the awaiting land ambulance, enabling both teams to be quickly quickly stood down.

Kinder Scout

The team was called as along with  Glossop Mountain RescueKinder Mountain Rescue and  Edale Mountain Rescue after receiving a report that a fell runner, who was training for a long distance race had suffered an injury and was somewhere on the Kinder Scout plateau. The Kinder search plan was initiated and the 4 teams began the organised and co-ordinated search approach required in such circumstances.

Windgather Rocks, Kettleshulme

The team was called out to assist the North West Ambulance Service after a young female was found at bottom of Windgather Rocks. In view of the location, and at the time, the unknown extent of the injuries, a call was made for mountain rescue assistance.

Soon after the call out was initiated, the ambulance crew along with a few mountain rescue team members were able to transport the lady to the ambulance and the stand down was conveyed to other team members en route.

Jacobs Ladder, Kinder Scout

The team was called out mid afternoon to investigate reports of shouting and a whistle being blown in the Jacobs Ladder area of Kinder Scout.

The response vehicles were deployed with a small number of team members to investigate.

On speaking to a couple of walkers as they walked up Jacobs Ladder, it became clear that walkers had reported that they had  witnessed another group using whistles and shouting to a member who was some distance away and walking on a different path.

Jacobs Ladder, Kinder Scout

Whilst team members were nearing the end of marshalling on the Buxton 1/2 marathon and fundraising in Castleton, they received a call to the Jacob’s Ladder area of Kinder Scout.

Due to members still marshalling on the race, assistance from Edale Mountain Rescue Team was requested.

Team members arrived at Tipps car park and were transported by 4×4 vehicles to the base of Jacob’s Ladder. They then headed to the casualty, a young lady who was part of a group, who was suffering from breathing difficulties near to Edale Cross.

Mam Tor, Castleton

The team, along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, was called out on Wednesday afternoon to a joint incident on Mam Tor.

The female casualty had been walking on Mam Tor with her husband when she fell and sustained an ankle injury. The casualty was assessed and given pain relief before her leg was splinted and she was placed on a mountain rescue stretcher.

The stretcher was initially sledged down the grassy slope, and then carried to the road head where the casualty was handed over to East Midlands Ambulance Service for onward transport to hospital.

Stanage Edge

In what was our quickest, stand by/stand down callout so far this year, the team was called to a joint snatch incident with Edale Mountain Rescue Team to assist a walker who had experienced a medical event. The team were stood down very quickly due to information that the group had been able to get to a position by themselves to be met by a paramedic from East Midlands Ambulance Service, who was able to resolve the issue.
