Winnats Pass, Castleton

The team were called out early afternoon to a report of 2 persons crag fast on Elbow Ridge, Winnats Pass.

As usual with mid week call outs a joint snatch call out was initiated with Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

On arrival, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were on site and dealing with the incident.

The team was stood down as soon as possible to enable team members to get back to their day jobs and other activities.

Errwood Reservoir, Goyt Valley

The team was called out mid afternoon to help two people who had taken a tumble at Fernilee reservoir. They had walked around part of the reservoir when they stumbled making their way down a gravel path.

Both of them fell, and were unable to continue their walk. They called East Midlands Ambulance Service who were quickly on scene and, due to the location of the incident, asked the mountain rescue team to assist with the exctraction.

Shipley Country Park

The team was asked to assist Derby MRT with an ongoing search for a vulnerable missing person at Shipley Country Park, north east of Derby.

Four team members were en-route to the RV point but were stood down as the missing person was found safe and well.

Brown Knoll, north east of Chapel -en-le-frith

The second incident of the day resulted from a 999 call to Derbyshire Constabulary by some walkers on Brown Knoll. They had come across another walker who they found lying on the ground with an injury to their head. The walker seemed confused about the events which had led up to the fall. Concerned the walker might not be able to continue with the walk they sensibly called for mountain rescue help.

Cave Dale, Castleton

During the week Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams often work together to ensure that we have sufficient operational members to respond to incidents in our respective areas.

After a walker took a tumble in Cave Dale, both teams responded to assist in case a stretcher evacuation was necessary. Members of Edale MRT were close by at their base and were soon on scene, and able to make an initial assessment of the casualty’s injuries and decided the patient could be walked down the path to the village with some assistance. …

Lathkill Dale, south west of Bakewell

A walker was enjoying the lovely hot sunny bank holiday weather in Lathkill Dale. While stopping for a snack, and making the most of the peace and tranquillity, a rock dislodged and landed on one of the walkers’ feet, causing a painful injury.

As they were unable to make any further progress themselves, they called East Midlands Ambulance Service. Due to the remote location, Your Local Air Ambulance WNDLR was tasked to the scene.

Winnats Pass, west of Castleton

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist our neighbours at Edale Mountain Rescue Team as is usual for midweek “snatch” incidents.

A walker had taken a tumble on the path leading up from the car park at the base of Winnats sustaining a painful lower leg injury. Edale team members already in the area were first on scene and were able to provide the initial medical treatment before the casualty was placed on a mountain rescue stretcher and carried to the road.

Millers Dale, east of Buxton

When the phone goes for a callout, you are never sure what the rescue will involve. Call out number 25 for the year was slightly unusual in that it involved a dog rather than a person.

Kinder Scout

As they were crossing the Kinder Plateau two walkers, on day 11 of a 500 mile walk from Gretna to London in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Action, sensibly made a 999 call to Derbyshire Constabulary to request help from Mountain Rescue. The mixture of poor visibility, wind, rain, and cold temperatures had made their progress both slow and difficult over the top of the plateau and their physical condition was deteriorating.

Kinder Scout plateau

The Kinder Search Plan was initiated for a mountain biker who was unsure of their location and benighted somewhere on the Kinder Scout plateau. Glossop, Edale, Buxton and Kinder mountain rescue teams were teams tasked to search their allocated areas of the plateau.

Subsequent information via Sarloc confirmed that the missing person was north of Sandyhays and was moving in a northerly direction.

Members of Glossop Mountain Rescue Team were able to locate the mountain biker and take care of the biker.
