Mam tor, Castleton

A mountain biker was out enjoying the warm afternoon yesterday on Mam Tor. Unfortunately the rider took a tumble in a steep downhill section and injured a leg and was unable to continue.

The Your Local Air Ambulance WNDLR was initially tasked to the incident but, due to the location, Edale Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were called to assist with transferring the casualty to the waiting aircraft. Kinder Scout, Grindslow Knoll, Edale

Three walkers had parked their car at Edale and made their way up to the Kinder Plateau hoping to enjoy a circular route, taking in some of the landmarks, before returning to their car. However, the thick low cloud made navigation difficult, and as night fell, and uncertain of their position, they took the sensible decision to dial 999 and ask for Police and then Mountain Rescue.

Ladybower, Bamford

The team was requested by South Yorkshire Police, to help with a search for a missing person in the Ladybower area of the Peak District. The team, along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, Glossop Mountain Rescue Team, Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, Derby Mountain Rescue Team and 3 search dogs from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England worked together along with members of the Fire Rescue Service, and our specially trained water and drone teams, to locate the casualty as quickly as possible.

Stoney West, south of Eyam

The team was called to assist Edale Mountain Rescue Team with the extraction of a fallen climber at Stoney West. The climber had fallen about 10 metres. Although this crag is close to the road it is high up and requires a tricky evacuation down to the road.

The climber had been attended too by an ambulance service paramedic prior to the arrival of the rescue teams.

Jacobs Ladder, Kinder Scout Plateau

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team requested the help of our drone team to assist with a search of Kinder Scout for a person reported to be in need of assistance.

The Drone was deployed and was able to take off, flew along the path to the cairn and back along the packhorse path. Nothing was seen and with the light fading the drone was brought in to land.

Ecton Hill, east of Warslow

The team was tasked to a joint snatch callout with Derby Mountain Rescue Team to assist West Midlands Ambulance Service to evacuate a paraglider pilot with major trauma.

Air ambulance, First Responder and WMAS were in attendance.

Whilst vehicles and team members were making their way to the RV, information was received that the injured pilot had been rescued by the ambulance service and we were stood down en-route.

Cut Thorn Hill, north east of Allgreave

While out enjoying a walk in the popular White Peak area of the Peak District National Park a member of a group placed a foot awkwardly on uneven ground and fell sustaining a painful lower leg injury. Other members of the party made the casualty comfortable while a 999 call was made requesting help.

Ringing Roger, Kinder Plateau, Edale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team received a call from our colleagues at Edale Mountain Rescue Team to assist with the rescue of a casualty high up on the Kinder Plateau. While out walking from Hope to Edale, along the southern edge path, the casualty had taken a tumble sustaining a painful lower leg injury and making further progress impossible.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team was initially alerted and called on Buxton Mountain Rescue to provide further numbers to assist in what became a long stretcher carry.

Team members had no sooner returned to work, home, or base from the previous call out when the second callout of the day came through from the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation – PDMRO Duty Controller.

The incident involved a walker who had taken a tumble on the path at the top end of the narrow gorge of Lud’s Church while on a circular walk starting from the Roaches.
