Kinder Scout, Edale

The team were requested by Derbyshire Constabulary to attend an incident on Kinder Scout on Friday evening. Initial reports were that a walker had collapsed and was unresponsive somewhere on the plateau at the top of Grindsbrook.

Due to the seriousness of the incident Edale Mountain Rescue Team, the Derbyshire Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance and a helicopter from Maritime and Coastguard Agency were also requested.

Monsal Trail, Little Longstone

Whilst out enjoying the countryside around Monsal Dale, a visitor to the area was overcome by a medical event and was unable to complete the walk. Another member of their party made a 999 call to request help, and after establishing the location of the casualty, response team vehicles were dispatched to the site. As these vehicles arrived at the Monsal Head rendezvous point, other team members made their way to the casualties location to begin the initial medical assessment and prepare an evacuation plan.

Mam Tor, Castleton

The team were contacted by Derbyshire Constabulary to assist a walker who had taken a tumble and sustained a painful ankle injury on the slopes leading up to “The Great Ridge” above Castleton.

Team members who were fund raising close-by in Castleton were quickly on scene, along with a team member from Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

The EMRT member set up the control at the road head whilst two BMRT team members carried the response equipment up to casualty site, which was on one of the paths leading towards the ridge. …

Tideswell Dale, Monsal Trail.

The second call out of the day came in at just past 4 o’clock, following a call from East Midlands Ambulance Service. Whilst riding a mobility scooter up the track along Tideswell Dale, the driver of the vehicle fell off sustaining a painful injury to the hip.

Family members and passing walkers were able to contact the emergency services despite problems with the mobile phone signal. While team members began to arrive at Millers Dale car park, a response vehicle was dispatched to search along the lane towards Litton Mill. A family member flagged …

Upper Dale, Monsal Trail

The first callout of the day resulted from an incident at Upper Dale, on the Monsal Trail, north west of Little Longstone. The team were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service to assist with the evacuation of a casualty from the trail.

As a result of further information, the team was a ble to stand down whilst en route.

Toot Hill, Macclesfield Forest

While descending Old Charity Lane a mountain biker took a tumble resulting in an injury to the lower leg.

Our colleagues at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust were called through Derbyshire Constabulary, and they requested help from the team to organise the evacuation of the casualty down the broken track to the Forest Chapel car park.

Our 4×4 response vehicles were soon on scene and able to carry equipment and team members close to the site of the incident to assist the paramedics. …

Cave Dale, Castleton

Whilst some of our team members were fundraising in Castleton, they were approached by a member of the public who alerted them to an injured walker, in Cave Dale, close to their location. They quickly stowed the fundraising equipment and set off, calling out the rest of the team, and our colleagues in Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

Monsal Trail

In what turned out to be a very quick call out/stand down process, the team duty leader was contacted for a request by East Midlands Ambulance Service to assist with the evacuation of a casualty who had been injured by a cow in Monsal Dale.

Before the callout could be initiated, the team was stood down as the casualty had been able to make their own way to the road.

Grindslow Knoll , north west of Edale.

The team, along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, received a request from East Midlands Ambulance Service Saturday afternoon assist a casualty who was somewhere on the Grindslow Knoll area of Kinder Scout.

Initial information indicated that a walker had fallen and suffered a lower leg injury that prevented them from being able to walk any further.
