Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team together with the East Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Windgather Rocks, near Kettleshume on Wednesday afternoon.

The casualty, a 21 year old male from the Northhants area, had been leading a climb known as “Face Route1” in the Buttress One area of the crag. He came off, his protection failed and he fell about 20 feet to the ground, sustaining pelvic, shoulder and back injuries.

He was treated on site by the ambulance crew and team personnel, including splinting and pain relief. He was then placed on a vacuum mattress, and carried to the roadside on a stretcher. Once transferred into the waiting land ambulance, he was taken to Macclesfield General Hospital for further treatment.

A team spokesman said “ This young man is a student living locally. He was wearing a helmet, without which his injuries may have been much more serious.”
