Incident report
On Friday afternoon, an Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue snatch squad was called to Stoney Middleton, following reports of a climbing accident.
The male climber was on a route near to “Minus Ten Wall” when a hold came loose and he fell. His protection seemed to fail and he landed on a small ledge, halfway down the rock wall.
Mountain Rescue personnel, including a paramedic, climbed up to his location on the ledge, and treated him for back and pelvis injuries.
Other team members rigged a rope system on the top of the crag, enabling a stretcher to be hauled up the rock face to the ledge. The injured climber was then loaded onto the stretcher and lowered down to the base of the crag. He was then evacuated to a waiting ambulance and taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further treatment.
