Incident report
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to the Roaches at dusk following a call to assist an injured walker. The team travelled to Roach End and carried out a speedy footpath search between there and Luds Church.
We soon located a 65 year old lady from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. She had been walking in Gradbach Wood with her sons when she slipped and sustained a suspected fracture/dislocation of her ankle. One of her sons alerted the staff at Gradbach Youth Hostel who then initiated the call for assistance. A local first responder and police officer arrived on scene just prior to the team. The lady was treated by team members who gave her pain relief, splinted her injured ankle, and placed her in a vacuum mattress which provided warmth, support and protection from the weather. She was then carried by team members on a stretcher along a very muddy and slippery path to the waiting ambulance at Roach End.
From there the casualty was transferred to the Macclesfield District General Hospital for further treatment.
