Incident report
In the dark, early hours, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist our Kinder Team colleagues with a search in the New Mills area.
A 53 year old local resident had been reported missing from home. The immediate neighbourhood was searched without success, so the search was extended to include the Sett Valley Trail, Hayfield, Lantern Pike, and the plateau and lower slopes of Kinder Scout. Due to the extensive area covered by search teams, additional resources were called in. This included a further 4 Peak District Mountain Rescue Teams (Glossop, Oldham, Woodhead and Edale), together with 6 Search and Rescue Dogs, a specialist trailing dog, Police Land Search personnel, and the Police helicopter. The teams worked in shifts throughout the 14 hour search in very cold, snowy conditions.
The missing man was located in the vicinity of William Clough. He was checked over, and as found to be physically well, escorted to Hayfield.
