Incident report
East Midlands Ambulance Service alerted mountain rescue to an incident by the side of the River Wye in Monsal Dale. A road-ambulance and an air-ambulance were already on route but it was thought the remote location and the steep sides of Monsal Dale might necessitate the assistance of a rescue team to extract the casualty. Fifteen members of Buxton team assembled at Monsal Head car park where the first few were able to assist the professionals with a carry to the air-ambulance which had found sufficient space to land in the dale bottom.
The casualty, a 43 year old lady from Sheffield, had suffered a suspected pelvic injury when falling in an attempt to catch a frisbee. She was air-lifted to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Yes I was there with the woman who sustained the injury. First off, many thanks to all the people from Mountain Rescue – in the ambulance, jeep and helicopter. You did a great job – there in minutes and with the human touch that’s important when you’re injured and a bit scared. Very re-assuring.
I was amazed to find out that most of that service is staffed by volunteers (you should be proud of yourselves) and that the helicopter is paid for by donations. So without those donations my friend would have been in a lot more pain than she was.
One more thing, my friend DID catch the frisbee?
Many thanks for your kind comments Stu. It was a catch question we didn’t like to ask!
