Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to Miller’s Dale to help Archie, a GoldenArchie the dog Millers Dale Jan 2016 Labrador.

Archie finds walking along the old railway line with his owners a bit boring and prefers to go chasing rabbits instead.  It was such a chase that landed him in trouble when he found himself stranded on a steep craggy piece of ground, unable to move backwards or forwards.  Despite coaxing he knew better than to attempt the jump and patiently waited for rescue.

It was 3.30pm when the team was alerted by the police and team members were quick to respond in order to attempt the rescue in daylight.  A simple rope lowering system was used to allow a member to access the dog which was then lifted to safety.  The job was helped by the fact that the dog was wearing a chest harness (although no climbing helmet!) which made for an easy pick up.  Within thirty minutes Archie was reunited with his owners and seemed completely oblivious to all the fuss.

Words can never express how grateful we are to the Buxton Team. Archie is learning to be more cautious. It seems that he also enjoyed seeing you all (and again being the centre of attention) later that evening when he came with a donation.
Seeing the rescue at first hand made me appreciate even more the work that you do.
