Incident report
A joint team call-out for Buxton and Edale teams following the report of a female casualty on the slopes of Mam Tor.
A 57 year old lady, visiting the area on holiday from Australia, slipped on steep wet ground and suffered a dislocated fracture of her ankle. Initial assessment and treatment was by the crew of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air-ambulance. The lady was then carefully lifted on to a rescue team stretcher for a short but steep carry to the summit of Mam Tor where the aircraft had landed.
This incident developed in to a challenging situation as the weather rapidly deteriorated throughout the rescue. What started as a fine afternoon suddenly developed in to a torrential, thunderous rainstorm with lightening striking several hill tops around the area of the incident.
The casualty was loaded into the aircraft without delay and flown to a Sheffield hospital for further treatment.
