Incident report
The Joint Snatch Squad of Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams was called out following reports of an injured walker in the Mam Tor area above Castleton.
The casualty was located on the old road underneath the face of Mam Tor, having been blown over by the wind and sustained a nasty fracture dislocation of his ankle. An Edale MRT doctor and paramedic were rapidly on scene to administer morphine initially and then some stronger sedative to allow reduction and relocation of the ankle.
The wind at this end of the valley was gusting up to 70+ mph making this a challenging rescue and hampering normal rescue techniques. The man was placed in a warm casualty bag and then onto a mountain rescue stretcher to be carried the short distance to the waiting East Midlands Ambulance.
