Incident report
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Derby MRT, together with three search dogs were called out by Staffordshire Police in relation to a 999 call the ambulance service had received the previous evening. The rendezvous point was near the Brittania Building Society headquarters in Leek, behind which is a steep and large wooded area.
The 999 call indicated that a youth had fallen from a mountain bike in dense woodland and was unable to move. The call was thought to be suspicious and the police were alerted. Whilst it was was strongly believed that the call had been a hoax, the police had to be certain so the rescue teams were called to search the area.
However, further information was received by the police, and the call-out was aborted within an hour. Two youths were arrested for wasting police time.
