Incident report
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out at 9.15 p.m. on Sunday 13th August following an initial call at 7.30 p.m. to Kinder M.R.T. relating to a group of walkers lost somewhere on the Southern edges of Kinder Scout.
Two Czech ladies in their twenties and now living in London were on a camping holiday in Buxton and decided to go for a walk on Kinder Scout. The pair climbed the moor from Edale and crossed to visit the Kinder Downfall. It was on the return journey that they became disorientated and soon met another couple of walkers from Sheffield who were also lost. The group of four continued on but then one of the Czech ladies slipped on a loose rock and twisted her knee.
The police were called and a police helicopter soon located the group in Crowden Brook about 200 metres North of the Edge path. This helicopter did not have the ability to land on the moor so a Coastguard S92 Search and Rescue Helicopter was called. The helicopter was overhead in about forty minutes and recovered the two lost walkers from Sheffield and the injured casualty taking them to a pre-planned landing site in Sheffield where medial help would be waiting.
That left just one walker on the hillside in the care of Kinder team members. By now Buxton M.R.T. had been alerted to the ongoing incident and members had climbed the moor from the Edale side arriving in a timely fashion to guide the lady down off the hillside and back to her car. Kinder M.R.T.members returned to their base in Hayfield.
The incident closed at 00.30 hours.
