Incident report
A long night search in freezing conditions was rewarded when a 38 year old lady from Doncaster was located by the rescue teams and brought to safety by an RAF Seaking helicopter.
The alarm was raised about 8.30 pm when the lady was reported missing and her car was located in Edale. Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Edale Mountain Rescue Team were both called to commence a search of the southern edge of Kinder Scout. The weather, although fine, was very cold with a strong wind reducing the air temperature to well below freezing. Concern was growing for the lady’s safety and by midnight over fifty volunteer rescuers and six search and rescue dogs were scouring the moor. They were joined at 01.30 a.m. by an RAF Seaking helicopter from R.A.F.Valley on Anglesey.
By 03.30, the search was winding down for the night and the helicopter had already departed for base when a solitary light was spotted flashing from the Hartshorn area. The helicopter was recalled and a foot section deployed to investigate. When it was confirmed that the light was that of the missing person, the helicopter collected the lady from the moor and took her to a Manchester hospital.
