Incident report
Following on immediately after the previous incident Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called by East Midlands Ambulance Service to attend a sledging accident near to the head of Goyts Lane.
A nineteen year old man from Lemmington suffered suspected back injuries following a sledging incident. Access to the casualty was complicated by the atrocious road conditions in the Goyt Valley. Following careful assessment and the administration of pain killing drugs the casualty was carried by stretcher to the top of Goyts Lane at its junction with Long Hill. East Midlands Ambulance Service was at full stretch with multiple calls in the icy conditions. Consequently there was a short delay before an ambulance became available. Team members kept the casualty warm in a box-tent before he was finally conveyed to a Stockport hospital.
Relatives of the man later contacted the team to inform us that the injury was not as bad a feared stating, “Luckily his injury turned out to be tissue damage, but we didn’t know that when you turned out. Your professionalism was inspirational. It may be a while before our sledges come out again!”
