Incident report
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to rendezvous at Edale following the report of a casualty with possible head injuries at the top of Jacob’s Ladder near to Edale Cross. A 23 year old female mountain biker had been thrown over the handlebars causing her to loose consciousness for a few minutes. Aware of the potential seriousness of the injury a party of five team members were ascending Jacobs Ladder within 30 minutes of the call and an RAF Seaking helicopter was alerted.
On arrival at the accident scene a team paramedic confirmed the request for a helicopter which was already on its way from RAF Leconfield. The lady was also treated for possible back injuries so common in such accidents and placed on an MR stretcher ready for air evacuation. The Seaking was overhead within 50 minutes of the request but darkness had already closed in as the helicopter commenced a winch-up of the casualty. The lady and the team paramedic were flown to a Sheffield for transfer to The Northern General Hospital.

Great job everyone, well done. Just goes to show you how we need our training as one of our newer members got pushed in at the deep end on this job. Good initial assessment together with an early request for a Sea King was the right decision, preventing a long and difficult evacuation by stretcher.
Well done Dave, you are a valuable asset to the team.
