Buxton team called to attend a 31 year old male from Sheffield who punctured his femoral vein when he fell from his mountain bike descending the clough. The casualty, who had a medical background realised immediately the seriousness of his injury and applied immediate but effective self aid until help arrived. The casualty was treated on site by NWAS paramedic and team members before being carried ca ½ mile to the waiting air ambulance. Fortunately for the casualty, there was just sufficient light for the aircraft to take off and the casualty was flown to Wythenshawe hospital for further treatment.
