Incident report

It was a beautiful afternoon when an experienced team member decided that a “Job Creation Scheme” was what thePeter Farrer team needed to boost call-out numbers.  Whilst out for a day’s walk and descending from Grindslow Knoll he slipped on the wet grass just below Archer Gate and sustained ligament damage to his knee.

The pain was sufficient for him to decide to call for help but it was a decision he knew he would regret making.  The Joint Team Snatch Squad from Buxton and Edale rescue teams was called out and with great sympathy climbed to their injured colleague.  Despite trying to remain professionally objective and keep straight faces the jibes and much sniggering could be heard in the next valley.  Peter Farrer, a team member for nearly forty-five years and veteran of hundreds of similar call-outs wished to remain nameless (some hope!).  He was eventually placed on a stretcher for the most gentle carry back to Edale.

An East Midlands Ambulance then took Peter to Buxton Minor Injuries Unit but he later attended Stepping Hill Hospital for further treatment.  It may be some weeks before he’s back on the call-out list.  Just another simple slip in the current treacherous soggy ground conditions.

Sorry Peter, you didn’t pay up fast enough so we had to publish!

Being so used to Dad getting calls to go on a call out, we never expected the day to come when we’d get the call to say that it was him needing the help of the team! Thanks so much to everyone who helped him yesterday. We’re all very grateful to you.

Enjoy the mickey taking when he returns and fingers crossed that someone comes up with some photos soon!!

Why walk down ‘ey Grandad when you can get carried down by your mates!

Farrer’s Bridge and now Farrer’s Gate! What next?

    Good luck Pete.

They say twins can feel each other’s
pain. Didn’t feel a thing. Naming the casualty was obviously on a
    ‘Knee’d to know basis’.
Good team work. Even providing your own casualty.
    Hop’ you recover quickly Peter.

Every team members nightmare, having to be rescued by your mates!
Pete, have you not read Joe Simpsons ‘Touching the Void’ ?

this is something every mountain rescue team member dreads having to call out a team for assistance to ones self, it could happen to any of us at any time, so swollow hard and be thankful that you are able to rely on such wonderful fellow members when needed .
good luck Peter and speedy recovery.
