Goyt Valley

The team were called out late afternoon to assist motorists who had got into difficulty in the Goyt Valley. The roads into and out of the valley are still snow and icebound and the occupants, who were not local, had driven into the valley. Due to the road conditions they were unable to drive back up out of the valley.

The team helped walk the occupants to the warmth of Mobile 2, whilst a local farmer towed their vehicle back onto the gritted and treated roads.

It was an honest and innocent mistake, and the vehicle occupants were grateful for the teams assistance….

Winnats Pass, Castleton

The team was called out at 16:20 to assist Derbyshire Police with an incident on Winnats Pass. There were reports that a number of vehicles had become stranded in snow on Winnats Pass.

The team deployed the two 4×4 vehicles  to the top of Winnats Pass from where they then set off on foot to locate a missing female driver.

The lady was reported to be safe and well soon after team members began checking the nearby fields and roadside.  Team members were soon able to return to the vehilce and head back to base.

Ashford in the Water

The busy start to 2019 continues with  Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams called to an experienced male walker, who had slipped on the riverside path between Ashford in the Water and Bakewell. The casualty’s friend made him comfortable using his emergency shelter, which helped to keep him warm, before walking towards the road to get a mobile signal, and make the 999 call for help.

On arrival at the casualty site, a full assessment was made and it was determined that the casualty had sustained a suspected fracture to his left leg. The casualty was placed onto the team’s stretcher, imobilised, …

Mam Tor

Whilst returning from the previous call out at Taxal, the mountain rescue team was requested to attend a joint callout with colleagues from Edale Mountain Rescue Team. The teams were called to attend a 30 year old male who had slipped on the footpath near the summit of Mam Tor, sustaining a lower leg injury.

The casualty was initially treated by mountain rescue team members, which included splinting the injury, before being placed in a casualty bag, vacuum mattress and being placed on a mountain rescue stretcher and sledged down to the road at Mam Nick. The casualty was then transferred …

Taxal, near Whaley Bridge

The mountain rescue team was called to assist colleagues from North West  Ambulance Service at Taxal near Whaley Bridge. NWAS were attending to a male casualty who was in a remote building which could only be accessed via a rough track. Due to the amount of snow and ice on the track the ambulance was unable to drive to the casualty. Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members transported the casualty along the track in one of the teams 4×4 vehicles to a waiting ambulance, from where the paramedics were able to continue their treatment.
