Bamford Edge

The team was called, along with with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, as part of the mid week “snatch” call out to Bamford Edge to assist a fallen climber. The climber, who was free climbing (no rope, no climbing aids) at the time, and fell about 8 metres. Team members assisted paramedics from the  East Midlands Ambulance Service to carefully place the male casualty onto a stretcher for a short carry to the waiting Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance. The casualty was then flown to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for further treatment.

Luds Church, Gradbach

The team was called to Luds Church, Gradbach to assist in a multi-agency response to help a lady walker who had fallen in Luds Church, a natural geological chasm some 100 metres long and 18 metres deep. Luds Church is a popular and interesting natural feature on many walks in the Staffordshire Peak District.

The team worked alongside Staffordshire Fire and RescueMidlands Air Ambulance, Staffordshire Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service, First Responders,West Midlands Hazard Area Response and the local landowners, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, to effect the rescue.

Lathkill Dale, Nr Monyash

The fourth call out of the weekend saw team members helping  East Midlands Ambulance Service to carry a female casualty who had slipped and sustained an ankle injury and was unable to continue. She had slipped in an area of Lathkill Dale that is difficult to carry out from, as the path is very narrow and the area is strewn with slippy limestone boulders.

The lady was treated on site before being placed in a vacuum mattress and casualty bag on a mountain rescue stretcher, and was carried along the boulder-strewn dale to the road head. She was transferred to …

Grindsbrook, Kinder Scout, Edale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called out to a joint rescue with Edale Mountain Rescue Team on Kinder Scout, just before 2.00pm on Sunday 7th April.

The casualty was a lady from Sheffield who was a regular walker in the area. She phoned for help as she was experiencing pain in her ankle which had intensified during her walk.  She was aware that her progress was extremely slow and she was getting cold.

Her exact position was uncertain, but it was thought she was somewhere on the edge path near the top of Grindsbrook Clough. Team members soon located the casualty just …

Grindsbrook, Kinder Scout, Edale

The Rescue Team were called out for the second time in 3 hours just after 4pm, on a joint rescue with Derby Mountain Rescue Team and Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

The casualty was a male with a leg injury at the top of Grindslow Knoll. Team members reached the casualty, assessed and treated the injuries and then carried him down to Edale village on a mountain rescue stretcher,  for onward transport to hospital.
