Cave Dale, Castleton

During the week Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams often work together to ensure that we have sufficient operational members to respond to incidents in our respective areas.

After a walker took a tumble in Cave Dale, both teams responded to assist in case a stretcher evacuation was necessary. Lathkill Dale, south west of Bakewell

A walker was enjoying the lovely hot sunny bank holiday weather in Lathkill Dale. While stopping for a snack, and making the most of the peace and tranquillity, a rock dislodged and landed on one of the walkers’ feet, causing a painful injury.

As they were unable to make any further progress themselves, they called East Midlands Ambulance Service. Due to the remote location, Your Local Air Ambulance WNDLR was tasked to the scene.

Winnats Pass, west of Castleton

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist our neighbours at Edale Mountain Rescue Team as is usual for midweek “snatch” incidents.

A walker had taken a tumble on the path leading up from the car park at the base of Winnats sustaining a painful lower leg injury. Edale team members already in the area were first on scene and were able to provide the initial medical treatment before the casualty was placed on a mountain rescue stretcher and carried to the road.

Millers Dale, east of Buxton

When the phone goes for a callout, you are never sure what the rescue will involve. Call out number 25 for the year was slightly unusual in that it involved a dog rather than a person.

A local resident was out walking in the Monsal Trail area with two dogs which had followed an animal trail away from the path. Kinder Scout

As they were crossing the Kinder Plateau two walkers, on day 11 of a 500 mile walk from Gretna to London in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Action, sensibly made a 999 call to Derbyshire Constabulary to request help from Mountain Rescue. The mixture of poor visibility, wind, rain, and cold temperatures had made their progress both slow and difficult over the top of the plateau and their physical condition was deteriorating.
