Treak Cliff Cavern, Castleton

While enjoying a trip to the Treak Cliff Cavern a visitor to the Peak District National Park felt unwell and after talking with an off-duty nurse it was felt that medical treatment was necessary.

East Midlands Ambulance Service were called, and due to the location of the unwell person, a request was made for the help of mountain rescue.

Chee Dale, near Millers Dale

While out walking in the river valley close to Miller’s Dale a couple found themselves off their chosen path and on steep, slippery ground in the Chee Tor area.

Another party were able to offer help to one of the walkers, but the other remained in a potentially precarious position.

A 999 call was made which was passed to Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

Goyt’s Clough, west of Buxton

The team were called to assist a walker who had slipped on a path alongside the River Goyt sustaining a painful lower leg injury.

The initial location showed the casualty was in the Shining Tor area, but this was later updated to the Goyt’s Clough area.

After the walker was located one of the team’s paramedics was able to assess the injury and provide pain relief before fitting a box splint to immobilise the leg. The injured person was then placed on a mountain rescue stretcher and carried across the …

Mam Tor, north west of Castleton

Whilst enjoying a walk on Mam Tor a walker slipped on muddy ground sustaining a very painful upper arm injury preventing further progress on the hill. A 999 call was made to the Police, which was passed to the Mountain Rescue Duty Controller.

After establishing the site of the incident Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were called out and made their way to the scene. Initial medical care was given by one of the team’s paramedics, while the stretcher was made ready for the evacuation back to the road …

Peak Dale, north east of Buxton.

While out brambling for blackberries a local resident slipped on a footpath and was unable to walk back to the road. Heavy rain and the cold wind resulted on the injured person becoming very cold.

Workers from Network Rail saw an arm waving above the hedge trying to attract their attention, and after assessing the situation the Network Rail workers dialled 999 to call the emergency services.

A paramedic from East Midlands Ambulance Service was soon on scene, and after an initial medical assessment called for the team …
