Primary School calls for Mountain Rescue!

The 46 pupils of Litton Primary School have been spending part of this summer on a project all about mountains and were keen to demonstrate their knowledge when four team members visited the school last week.

In a short question and answer session at the start of the visit, team members were amazed at the depth of knowledge the children had acquired.  It left Team Chairman, Roger Bennett, wishing he had never asked some of the questions when it became apparent that the children knew more about mountains than he did.   Time then for a change of tack and the subject was quickly changed by introducing “Megan” , one of the team’s search and rescue dogs.   Handler, Dave Mason, put Megan through her paces retrieving articles of clothing hidden in the playground.  To the delight of the children Megan found everything she was asked to and received 64 pats on the head.

On the opposite side of the school yard team members were being taught how to place a casualty onto a stretcher and then carry it down a hill.

It was a very rewarding morning for everyone and the team members went home much wiser for the visit.  Later this summer the school is organising a sponsored walk in aid of the team.  Thanks to all the children and staff for a great day.
