Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called on Saturday lunch time to the Pennine Bridleway to assist the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

The casualty, a 40 year old male from Derby, was mountain biking with friends when he hit a rock and was catapulted over the handlebars. He landed heavily and suffered a dislocated shoulder. One of his friends travelled a considerable distance to raise the alarm and call for assistance. The incident site was more than 1.5 kilometres from the Rushop Edge road, along the Pennine Bridleway on the south side of Roych Clough.  We were able to access the site with our Land Rover, speeding up the response time.

The man was treated on site by the paramedic aircrew for his injury. As he was very cold, team members placed him into a vacuum mattress which provides support and warmth.  He was then carried by stretcher to the waiting aircraft and flown to the Royal Derby Hospital for further treatment.
