Incident report

On Sunday afternoon, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called to Chrome Hill, near Glutton Bridge to assist the ambulance service who had been called to an injured hill walker, whose exact location was unknown.

The casualty, a 67 year old woman from Salford, was located on the north west face of Chrome Hill by team members. As by this time the North West Air Ambulance had arrived, it was aircraft paramedics who provided treatment on site for a suspected fractured ankle.

Due to the steep terrain the helicopter couldn’t land directly by the casualty site. The nearest point the pilot could put down was about 200 metres below. Mountain Rescue personnel carried the casualty downhill by stretcher. The woman was loaded into the aircraft, and then flown to North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary for further treatment. Her two walking companions were escorted down to the roadside and taken to their transport in Longnor.
