Incident report
Whilst fundraising in Buxton and Castleton on Bank Holiday Monday the Buxton Team was called to Winnats Pass, Castleton, to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service.
On arrival we located a 48 year old female from London who had slipped whilst walking across the steep grassy hillside above Speedwell Cavern, and sustained a suspected fracture of her right ankle. She was treated on-site by an ambulance service paramedic, including splinting and pain relief. The team then placed her on a stretcher and carried her some 200 feet down the steep hillside to the road.
The casualty elected to travel to hospital with her husband in their own transport.
Neil Carruthers, Buxton Team Leader said “ We believe the couple were on holiday in the area, enjoying the wonderful weather. However, the lady was not wearing boots and she slipped on the grassy, limestone surface, sustaining a nasty injury”.
