Incident report
A joint Buxton & Edale snatch squad was called to rendezvous at Edale following the report of an ankle injury just north of Hartshorn on the Kinder plateau.
A 19 year old male, part of a Boy’s Brigade group from Kempston in Bedfordshire, was on expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award scheme. A simple stumble resulted in an open fracture of the lower leg; rather more serious than first reported.
As team members were carrying the equipment towards the accident site the Yorkshire Air-ambulance was able to land near the casualty and quickly transfer him to Sheffield Northern General.
The efforts of the rescue parties was not in vain though as a second call to an incident just over a kilometer away came in at 17.20 hours and the team members were diverted to Jagger’s Clough.
