Incident report

Twenty two members of Buxton Mountain Rescue team responded to an evening call out to assist a 72 year old gentleman who had suffered a severe ankle injury in a remote part of Lathkill Dale, near Monyash.  East Midlands Ambulance Service had received the call from the son of the injured party who had to climb some distance out of the dale to get a cell-phone signal.  lathkill-dale-small_edited-2On arrival of the team at Haddon Grove Farm the ambulance crew had still been unable to locate the casualty and team members entered the dale from three different locations in order to speedily search the main footpath.

The casualty and his son from Basingstoke had been walking in the dale taking photographs when the accident occurred.  On locating the casualty team first aiders and the ambulance crew started treating the injuries before the arrival of a team doctor who was able to administer analgesic drugs.

The loaded stretcher was then carried up the steep sides of the valley to a second ambulance now waiting at Haddon Grove Farm, from where the casualty was taken to Chesterfield Hospital.

How refreshing, particulary this week, to know that many people still give their valuable time without any thought of reward or glory. They are the people that make Great Britain great.
