Incident report
While walking along a popular section of the Limestone Way, a member of a walking party slipped on the clay and limestone which forms the base of many of the paths in this area. The slip resulted in a very painful lower limb injury which making further progress impossible. One of the party dialled 999 which resulted in a call for the assistance of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team who made their way to the Miller’s Dale rendezvous point.
The location of the casualty required 4×4 vehicles to ferry team members to the scene, where an initial medical assessment of the injury suggested that a stretcher was evacuation would be necessary. Watched by a curious herd of cattle, pain relief was given, a box splint applied and the casualty then carried along the path to a team vehicle. From here it was possible to ferry the casualty to Miller’s Dale Station to meet the other party members who then transported the patient to hospital.
Team vehicles were then returned to Base for a good hosing down to remove the infamous White Peak mud.
