Incident report
A party of young people were walking through the Lathkill Nature Reserve when one of the group tripped and exacerbated a previous hip injury. With the casualty in great pain and unable to walk any further, the other members of the party made some quick decisions and put their outdoor training into practice. While some established their location with an OS grid reference and dialled 999 to ask for Police and Mountain Rescue, others made sure the casualty was both warm and comfortable.
Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service were soon on scene to begin medical treatment, along with our colleagues from the Air Ambulance.
Members of Buxton MRT and Edale Mountain Rescue Team were also called and made their way to the site of the incident to help with the extraction of the casualty. After receiving pain relief from the paramedics, the casualty was placed on the mountain rescue stretcher and carried by team members along the path beside the river and up to a nearby farm. After further assessment by the EMAS paramedics the casualty was transferred to the ambulance for the onward journey to hospital and further medical treatment.
Our best wishes go to the casualty for a speedy recovery and hope the party can get back together soon to complete their journey.
Team members then began the process of cleaning the kit used before repacking the vehicles and making them ready for the next callout.
