Incident report
At a time when most people are soundly asleep, the team was woken up by a request from Derbyshire Constabulary to assist with a search for two missing people on Kinder Scout.
The information the missing people had provided was vague, and their actual location difficult to determine. In such circumstances, the “Kinder Search Plan” was initiated. The Kinder Search Plan essentially splits Kinder into four areas, and each of the relevant teams search their allotted area. As ourselves, Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Glossop Mountain Rescue Team were setting off, four search dogs from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England were also deployed to help cover the vast area of moorland.
After several hours of searching, the two missing people were located by dog team Abbey and her handler Mark. Apart from being a little cold, they were otherwise fit and well.
All 4 teams and the search dogs were stood down and the equipment and vehicles used were cleaned and disinfected before being repacked in readiness for the next call out. Team members returned home to their beds to try to get some well-earned sleep, not knowing that this was the start of our busiest day for call outs so far.
